Check out what Candice had to say about Degree:
What brought you to Degree in the first place?
I was looking for a fitness solution to replace or supplement my outdoor walking with the onset of Fall and Winter. I also wanted to incorporate some exercise that involved strength training and muscle development.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression was that Degree Fitness was a friendly, welcoming place and it provided the type of training I was looking for.
Degree Fitness has become so much more than what my expectations were. It's not just a gym. It's community, a family. A great group of friends that encourage and support you. I'm so happy and proud to be part of the Degree family. It's changed so much of my life. I love going to class. It's the best part of my week.
What was your first “bright spot”?
It still has to be the first time I could do a burpee and my Dad came to the gym and saw me do that. There are so many bright spots. Every time I can do something that had been "impossible" 16 or 17 months ago is a bright spot.
What are you working on now?
As I'm getting closer to my pre-surgery goal weight, I've shifted my focus to toning and lean muscle development. My plan is to go into maintenance mode for a year and then begin the process for skin surgery.
What is your advice for someone who is thinking about starting a fitness or nutrition program?
My advice would be first off, don't be afraid. Don't worry about feeling awkward when trying something new. We all have a starting point. Set reasonable and attainable goals. You can always set new goals as you go along. Be mindful of what your body is saying. You will get to know yourself and your body really well. Don't be afraid to tell your coach if something hurts. Muscle soreness and burn is okay. Sharp pain, nerve pain or pain that prevents movement needs to be heeded. The only person you're ever in competition with is yourself. It's good to challenge yourself. Just remember your fitness journey is all about you, not trying to catch up to someone else.
