What brought you to group classes in the first place?
I joined Degree because I wanted to put myself out there and meet more people. I am not a super social person and I wanted to do something that not only would get me out of the house but also get me moving.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impression of group classes was great! At first I was really worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with the group, but after actually attending and participating in my first group class I quickly learned that everyone is very welcoming and any/all workouts can be done at your own pace and adjusted to match whatever works best for you!
What was your first “bright spot”?
My first "bright spot" was personal training with MJ! It was the first time I had really done any fitness program since high school and I was so nervous! MJ was (and is) stellar, she listened to concerns and did everything at a pace that worked for me!
What are you working on now?
I worked the hardest I have ever worked in my life this past (almost!) year and focused on cardio, diet and overall just losing weight, and thanks to the support of friends and family and the amazing Degree coaches & members I have successfully lost just under 80lbs and feel amazing (yay!!) Now I would like to switch to more strength training and building muscle, and really having a solid nutrition plan to back that up!
What is your advice for someone who is thinking about starting a fitness or nutrition program?
My advice for someone who is thinking about starting a fitness or nutrition program is to just START! The most challenging part is just getting up and trying it out which is why you have to just do it. I recommend finding an accountability partner (someone you can hit the classes with, or do Personal training & bring a friend with) or just meet with Coach Kelly just to get an idea of what coming to Degree might look like for you! Once you take that leap you are already halfway there. It took me a long time to even convince myself to go to personal training, but once I did there was nothing stopping me from going again and again! Now I have hit over 100 group classes and have been going to Degree for almost a year.
