Janet comes to the gym with a huge smile for everyone and is ready to workout no matter what is on the schedule. She is a great example to all of us that if a movement does not work for whatever reason that there is always an alternative to try and to keep moving, the key being communication with the coaches!
Janet brings lots of laughter and joy to our workout time and we all look forward to our hour together.
Keep being a great example Janet to all ages in all that you do!!

Check out what Janet had to say about Degree:
What brought you to Degree in the first place?
I came to the Wellness Program once I finished my pre -and- post hip surgery personal training with MJ, but that's another story for another time. I was thinking that I could begin to move into more 'mainstream', general exercise from the physio-specific targeted exercises for my hip. Since the Wellness Program is for ages 60 and over, I thought it would be a great way to work into general fitness activities, since MJ, my PT coach who knows my capabilities and challenges, also coaches the Wellness class. And it was, and is, a great way to build general, functional fitness! But more than that, what I discovered was a lovely group of interesting people who support and help each other, and make the class so enjoyable. And we all agree that doing the class together brings a lift to our day and sees us all smiling as we walk back out the door after class!
What was your first “bright spot”?
I still remember one of my first bright spots in the Wellness class was my ability to complete a number of glute bridges, an exercise that is definitely prescribed post hip surgery.
What are you working on now?
There continue to be bright spots as I continue to challenge myself in class. It also amazes me how a small exercise, such as one with a mini-band, can give muscles a good workout. With my Physio's mantra "Motion is lotion" in mind, I am continually working on all the different movements in class, and challenging myself to improve my technique, strength and range of motion over time, so I can maintain my mobility, function fitness and freedom for years to come!
What is your advice for someone who is thinking about starting a fitness or nutrition program?
For anyone who is thinking about beginning a fitness journey - and it is a journey, so enjoy the path!! - I would say, wherever you're at - just start! - as truly, 'motion is lotion'. And this Wellness group is wonderful and most welcoming, if you choose the Wellness Program as your path!
