Meet your August Member of the Month, Willemien!


Willemien has truly thrived here at Degree, and continues to do so each and every day. Between hitting her group CrossFit classes, and meeting with her personal trainer, she's achieved so many amazing milestones. Willemien knows that her health is important, and works hard to keep it that way. We are so, so proud of you, Willemien!

I first came to Degree because my psychotherapist and Coach Mary Jane were telling me that physical fitness would help me with my mental health and help me deal with the difficulties I was going through. 


At first I was pretty apprehensive about being able to do all the various movements, or that I would even enjoy it.  The coaches are great; they make you feel comfortable and they work with whatever abilities you have and from there challenge you to improve.   


I love that one of the first things you are asked is how you are feeling that day and you can always adjust a workout to what you can do.


The first bright spot that I can recall was setting a 1RM for my deadlift.  Right now I am working on improving my cardio, where I've already made huge improvements this summer.  I'm also excited to get back to working with a barbell and hopefully the bar as well.


My favourite Degree memory is not a moment but the general atmosphere here. The coaches care about you as a whole person, all aspects of your life, not just how you are performing at the gym.  All the members are so supportive and encouraging.  The camaraderie among the members is just awesome!
