We know that our bodies take time to adapt and change. The problem is, we are so used to instance results, and, we are bombarded with social media on what ‘fitness’ looks like.
We get asked often as coaches “How long is this going to take me?” Our best answer? It depends.
If you read our last blog "What happens in 3 months" , you’ll know that 3 months is the starting point, at minimum.
What we need to understand is what we gain in 3 months, if we quit after 3 months, what do you think happens? You’re right, we go right back to where we started, and do the wheel all over again.
Did you know that it’s easier in the long run to stick with a program, than it is to ride the hamster wheel over and over, never actually getting anywhere?
You can think of the answer to this in two parts:
1) How long will it take me to hit my immediate goal? Say this is to lose 10lbs.
We can track those using data markers such as body composition scales. You’ll know when you’ve hit it because you’ll see this reflected in the numbers.
2) How long do I stick to a program even if I’ve hit my goal?
As long as you can.
Remember, it’s good to have ‘top layer’ goals or aspirations (run a 5K, do a handstand, lose 10lb, etc.), however, we have to have deeper wants and desires to be happy that keep us active and taking care of ourselves even when we’ve ran that 5K, or we’ve lost that 10lb.
After all, we want to keep that handstand skill, and keep those 10lbs off, right?
Ideally you’ll be able to stick to your fitness program, coaching program, or your regular healthy lifestyle for many, many years. This will look different for each individual, so that’s what we’re here for:
To help you build and sustain the best path for you, your life, and your goals
