It's more common than people may think when it comes to losing motivation.
Even the most seemingly motivated people run into roadblocks!
When you search the definition of motivation on Google you'll find:
the reason(s) one has for acting or behaving a certain way
the general desire or willingness to do something
What happens when we can't find a good reason? Or, we just don't want to do something?
Here are our top 3 ways to bust through feeling unmotivated!
1. Know that this a normal part of your fitness/health journey!
Making the effort day in and day out to eat well, get enough sleep, manage stress, get to the gym/training appointments can be tough. Throw in the stressors of everyday life and some days it seems darn well impossible.
It is normal for us to want to ease off here and there. This stuff can be tough!
Understanding that having regular times of feeling ready to rock, and regular times of feeling more like sleeping a little longer is normal.
The key is to pick yourself back up where you left off. Learning about yourself so you know when you do need a few days to rest and recoup, and knowing when a few days is now turning into weeks or months.
2. Relying on self discipline more than motivation
Motivation is fleeting; it's here one minute then it's gone.
Self discipline is described by the Google dictionary as the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite the temptations to abandon it.
We know that exercise is right, and we also know that someday we'll just rather not. We also know that even if it's hard at the beginning, we'll always feel better after.
Having self discipline even when we don't 'want' to, helps us to create solid behaviours for a better outcome.
3. Ask for help!
The further away we get from a good habit, or, the longer we keep putting it off, the harder it is to get back to it.
This is why we do bi-monthly check in meetings with our Members to ensure they have the support they need.
Oftentimes when we lead an active life, or have committed to a healthy lifestyle, it can be tough after a period of time, especially if we're lacking the social support from friends or family to do this. That's where your Coaches come in!
Asking for help is sometimes as simple as having someone to talk to about what you're going through, how you're feeling stuck, and workshopping ways to get around it.
At Degree, your Coaches have been where you've been; we've been unmotivated, lacked self discipline, and we continue to work on it each day - just like you!
