It’s that time of year.
Daylight hours are shorter, it’s cold, and there's unpredictable weather! It's not warm and sunny, and if you are like me, then sometimes the winter just seems to make it harder to get outside regularly.
During this season, I think about a plan of attack on how to keep myself active outdoors and not fall into a couch potato mode.
I know that I have limited daylight hours, so weekends play a huge role, and I am lucky enough to have some late lunch opportunities to take advantage of the outdoors! So, what do I like?
I like hiking, so I know in advance what trails are open and I know I do not have to travel far to hit up some nice walking trails.
I like snowshoeing and I do know that we need a good crop of snow for this to happen! I was able to grab a cheaper pair of snowshoes from Canadian Tire a few years ago and I do NOT regret it. I can do this right at home. (Pssssttt... did you know you can borrow snowshoes through the Huron County library? Check out the online catalogue or stop in at your closest branch to find out more!)
I like skating! We take the kids to the public skating sessions on the weekend, or we hit up the outdoor ice rink at the park in London.
I like running! I do have special attachments for my shoes that I can simply put over my runners and a way I go! It may not be as frequent as the spring, summer or fall, but hey it's an option for those mild days we can get.
The important thing for me is to keep warm! I absolutely dread being cold; therefore I have made an attempt to get decent base layers and just layer up and be prepared! I also know that getting outside only enhances my mood and can turn my day around.
SO, what activities can you add into your winter? It’s never too late to take action and get outside a little bit more!
