Want to know a secret? Losing 10 pounds or 20 pounds or 50 pounds or 100 pounds or any amount of weight won't change your life on it's own! So let's dig a little further!
WHY do you want to lose that weight? If you want to lose weight to be healthier, that's amazing! The aspects of our health that we can control are actually tied more to our behaviours than to our body weight itself. However, if there's lots of room to make changes, focusing on health can also result in weight loss for some people. Just because a certain diet is helping you lose weight, that doesn't mean it's actually great for your health in the long-term.
Instead of saying you're going to lose weight, let's find some health behaviours you could dial in and see where we go!
If you want to lose weight because you think you'll feel better about yourself, that's also a common reason, and once again might need a different kind of goal. You can lose all the weight you want, but if you never deal with the mental piece, you'll never be happy with your body at any size or shape.
This might mean working more on improving your body image and how you talk to and about yourself.
While exercise and nutrition may play a role here, you may also need to seek out a mental health professional to work through these things. While it might be scary, imagine coming to the end of the year feeling great in your body, no matter what it looks like! How cool would that be?
The bottom line is, if your goal for 2022 involves weight loss, dig just a little bit deeper into why that is.
If you actually want to change your life this year, work on making changes that align with your "why", not just changing your weight.
