What does weight loss really mean?

Written By: Coach Kelly

The number one reason people come to us is to lose weight. We always ask “What brought you in today, what are you looking for?” “I want to lose weight.”
There is nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight. For some, their health can be improved by losing some weight. For others, it ends up being a crutch because we actually want to:
Feel more confident in our own skin
Feel stronger
Have more energy
Sleep better
Be less sore
Putting it as “losing weight” sounds simpler.
The problem arises when we’re chasing a number.
We’re trying too hard to lose weight that we’re wreaking havoc on our body’s metabolic rate by trying all kinds of (restrictive) diets, or diets that just don’t work.
The un-shiny, probably boring answer is; just eat well, and keep active.
A lot of people will get frustrated with that. “But what do you mean? Can’t you just tell me exactly what to eat?”
Our goal of our nutrition program at Degree is to empower our clients to eventually be out on their own, have a positive relationship with food, and cultivate a love for the body they are in.
We can help you lose weight. More importantly we can help you to gain confidence, strength, stamina, increase your energy, sleep better, have less soreness.
Will this always look like weight loss? Maybe not – but what if it looked like an increase in lean muscle mass, which then, leads to a higher resting metabolic rate (ie. you burn more energy in a day). What if it leads to your clothes fitting better, or you feeling more confident?
In my next blog I’ll teach you a different thought process about weight loss and fat loss.
