By changing the time under tension in a movement you are changing the response that your body will have.
There are many ways to change the time under tension depending on what your desired outcome is. If you are looking for increased strength, you could slow down the eccentric phase. Holding the pause at the bottom and top while under load can increase midline stability, or add in an explosive phase in the tempo to increase power and explosive output.
