How to Keep Up the Things You Love… Even When Things Get Tough
Written By: Coach Kelly
We are in a period of change, fluctuation, and for a lot of people, in some tight quarters when it comes to balancing our finances, and continuing to be able to do the things we love.
Often times when things get tough, whether that’s due to time, schedule, or financial, we will drop the things that are most beneficial for us (ie. the gym, your regular massage/chiropractic appointment, etc.)
We need to buy groceries, gas, regular bills… these things are a priority – as they should be!
What we want to try to think about is that our health and wellness is also a priority – as it should be.
Below are 3 ways that you can continue to fill your fitness/health bucket, even on a budget:
Less is still better than none.
– If you are on the highest or biggest package/membership at your gym, request to decrease to a lower amount.
– For instance, coming to classes at Degree 2x per week is still tremendously more beneficial than stopping all together. Coming to a personal training appointment 1x per week, or even every other week, is still tremendously more beneficial than nothing at all.
Walk or bike if you can.
– We know that this option isn’t accessible for everyone, so, are there ways we can think outside of the box?
– Maybe you drive into the city or into a town for work. Could you leave your car parked for the day in the lot, and walk or carpool out for lunch or for errands on your break?
– If you do live in the same town where you work, can you walk or bike on certain days to work? (Note: this means that we need to take care of our health to be able to have this option – your health is a priority!)
Go out to eat less often.
– Maybe you and the family headed out to the local ice cream shop every week after soccer, or every Thursday headed out to Wing Night.
– Rather, what about making it a really special monthly occurrence, or bi-monthly? Are there ways we can gather the family at home for BBQ season?
Before we jump the gun and drop all the good things (which will lead to increases in stress, lack of social connections, feeling terrible physically and mentally), let’s take a staggered approach.
