If you have health and fitness goals that are a priority for you, the holidays can be a stressful time. While this year is probably looking a bit different than other years, there will still likely be special meals and treat foods that don’t show up the rest of the year.
How do you fit these things in without feeling like you’re missing out?
1. Let go of guilt around food!
This may arguably be the hardest thing on this list, especially if you tend to restrict certain foods. Try not to beat yourself up if you feel that you’ve overeaten or had more treat foods than normal. Watch the language you use with yourself – you’re not “bad” for eating anything and definitely don’t need to make up for it in any way.
2. Look for balance at MOST meals!
Read that last sentence again and notice it doesn’t say ALL meals – that probably wouldn’t be realistic! Balance could look like a great portion of vegetables, a source of protein, and a source of carbs.
3. Move your body most days!
This could be doing your regularly scheduled workouts at Degree, or getting out to be active with your family outside! Exercise is great for digestion if you are eating differently than normal, and can give you a mental health boost if you need it. It’s also easier to be consistent with your fitness than to take a break and have to get started again!
4. Eat consistently throughout each day!
If we have more time off or special meals planned, it’s easy for a normal eating routine to slide. Your best bet for keeping your energy stable, mood up, and to be able to enjoy meals without being excessively hungry is to stick to a normal eating routine. This would probably include breakfast, lunch, and dinner for most people, as well as snacks as needed.
