How Tempo Training Teaches Control and Proper Mechanics!

Written By: Coach James

Whether you are a seasoned athlete or just beginning, we all need to move with proper mechanics in order to improve our strength and avoid injuries.
If you speed through a movement, you are more likely to miss key elements of the exercise that are going to keep you safe and moving well over the long term.
Take for example the air squat. You want to send the hips back, engage the glutes and the core, keep the chest tall, drive the knees out, press through the floor with your full foot. If you rush through this you can end up “crashing” in the bottom (going too deep in the squat), having a rounded back, hips rising too early (butt wink), all things that you want to avoid. If these are not corrected, when you start adding weight you could potentially be setting yourself up for failure. It is important to slow it down and feel each position from top to bottom.
