My Mom had her bone density test the other day, and the Doctor’s let her know that everything was really good, but she could probably add in some resistance training as her numbers had gone down just a wee bit.
The doctor told her to go out and buy some resistance bands. Mom went out and bought the bands. Now what? They’re sitting on her table because nobody has taught her to use them.
This is the massive gap between health care providers, and Personal Trainers or fitness professionals.
Have you ever been in this position? You tweak your knee so you hit up your 4 or 6 sessions of Physio, they send you home with some exercises (that you never do) and begin the circle of pain, physio, fine for a bit, pain, physio, etc.
I’ve been there, and that’s why I’m so passionate about bridging the gap between acute health care (ie. getting a recommendation from your Doctor to be more active, and when you’re Physio appointments run out).
What do we do in the middle?
Unless you already have some background in movement, fitness, or just like to be active, it’s going to be hard to know what to do next and that’s why most people don’t get as far as they want.
We work with many clients at Degree that are coming from Physiotherapy for various reasons (stroke recovery, hip replacement recovery) and we bridge the gap for them to be able to feel strong and confident in the real world.
We take what they’ve learned and built with the amazing Physiotherapists in our area, and we help to take that to the next level.
We communicate with our Client’s other healthcare providers (Osteopaths, Physiotherapists) to ensure that our training at Degree, aligns with their therapies in their office. This creates a supportive environment for the client because we’re all working together.
Personal Trainers and professional fitness coaches bridge the gap.
