You can help your balance by working on your core and leg strength. We all have a stronger and a weaker side and it can become more pronounced over time from repetitive motion, age, arthritis or other conditions. We may not even realize that we favor one side over the other until it is pointed out.
The Glute Bridge and Chair(Bench) Squat are two effective exercises to build your lower body strength and both can be done at home with no extra equipment!
The Glute Bridge not only works your glutes (butt muscles), but it also builds strength in your hamstrings, lower back and abs. It is also a great alternative if squats don’t work for you due to knee, hip or back issues.
The Chair(Bench) Squat works your glutes, hamstrings and hips. If you have knee or hip pain this version of the squat is more user friendly.
As we do these exercises, focus on keeping your movements as even as you can, don’t rush through them. Start with doing 5-10 repetitions, 3 times and increase the reps as you build your strength and comfort level doing them. Rest between sets as needed!
