Ever wonder why your coaches have you break down a movement into smaller parts? And then go over it again and again? Consider this statement:
“It takes 500 hours to invoke a motor pattern before it becomes unconscious. It takes 25-30 thousand reps to break a bad motor pattern.” Buddy Morris
Your coach wants you to learn to move in a safe and efficient way so that you can make the gains and goals that you have set. By breaking down the movements and practicing them piece by piece, it teaches our brain and body to work together.
The movement becomes natural and we don’t need to think the entire process through when we use them in our training.
Top athletes spend hours on the small things that in the long haul earn them the quality of movement that not only keeps them safe but improves their performance. They work on building a stable base, a strong core and upper body strength individually before putting them all together.
Next time you are at your class and it feels like the same old stuff again, remind yourself of the why. Not only to keep you safe but to help build the strength and mobility you are looking for!
