A Different Approach to Fitness Over the Years
Written by: Coach Kelly
Coach Kelly here – as a fitness coach that’s been in the industry for over 10 years, I’ve seen and heard a lot of things.
I’ve sat down with a lot of people that come in to learn about Degree, what we offer, and how we can help (this is our No Sweat Intro!) and a comment that comes up sometimes mostly from women in their 40s, 50s and 60s is they want to weigh what they did in their 20s, or even high school.
When we hear this as fitness coaches, it can be a sensitive topic.
The reality is, it is highly unlikely that we are going to be the same bodyweight that we were in our late teens or early 20’s. Even the same bodyweight we were 10 years ago. This doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you. It means that our lives are different in more ways than one.
What we ask then is “Say that we don’t hit that number, what if you weighed the same, or a little less, but felt better? Stronger? Fitter? Your clothes fit better? You can go up and downstairs without help? You can lift your grand kids up? What’s important to you?”
Then the conversation moves to why fitness is important in a way that’s deeper and more life changing then a number on a scale.
That why is the thing that’s going to carry you through the hard days, the days you want to quit and just throw in the towel.
The truth is, we’re not the same as we were in our 20s, and we’re not supposed to be.
The true marker of fitness and health is avoiding chronic or acute disease, being free to live the active life you want, and loving your body and who you are for exactly who you are, regardless of a number.
Our mission at Degree is to help you be the fittest, strongest, healthiest and happiest version of yourself. We’ll teach you how to make exercise something you do, not something you have to do. We’ll help you understand nutrition and food so it’s not complicated. We’ll show you how strong you really are, and help you see how amazing you actually are!
So, let’s get started 🙂
